Crystal Edwards has been taking Developmental Movement and Joyful Parenting classes with her two daughters for a year and a half. Crystal has expressed that NOCE’s Parenting Program has changed her life and added structure to the way she raises her children. The classes have taught Crystal how to sing songs with her children when they need to alleviate stress; how to coach her children through their interactions with peers, parents, and teachers so that they are prepared for Kindergarten; and how to expand upon what they learn in class to provide a positive environment at home. Her instructor Melissa Martinez shared, “Crystal’s class attendance is close to perfect and she encourages her two daughters by setting a good example for them to follow. She engages with them throughout the class and when the time is right, Crystal takes a step back and allows them to learn and explore on their own and with other children in the class. Crystal participates fully and is a star student and parent to her girls.” Crystal shared with her teacher how grateful she was for the opportunity to take these classes at NOCE.
Since 2006, mother of three Mery Munoz-Rosales has worked her way around several barriers to attend Instructor Heidi Steams' Joyful Parenting Courses. For starters, Munoz-Rosales lives in Ontario, California. Rather than enroll in a Parenting Program close to home, Munoz-Rosales chooses to commute to Anaheim because of the bonds she has developed with other parents and the friends her children have made in the program. In addition, Munoz-Rosales has been fighting a severe form of arthritis that affect her spine and causes pain throughout her entire body. Despite her condition, Munoz-Rosales has missed very few Joyful Parenting classes and hides her pain with a smile, attentive behavior, and close involvement with her children in all aspects of the program. Not only does Munoz-Rosales contribute to the class by helping other parents grow with their children, but she has also taken it upon herself to act as a translator for many of the Spanish-speaking parents in the course. instructor Stephanie shared, "Mery's dedication and enthusiasm to spend quality time with her children has not only enhanced her skills as a parent, but has helped her prepare her children to move on to elementary school with a feeling of independence too.
