We are pleased to share the results of the 2026–2027 NOCE Student Trustee election. Congratulations to Yellckin Brenes on being elected as the next NOCE Student Trustee.

Yellckin’s story reflects the resilience, perseverance, and determination that define so many of our students. Originally from Nicaragua and a first-generation immigrant, he has overcome significant challenges while pursuing his educational goals at NOCE. Through his experiences in ESL, career technical education, and student engagement, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to advocacy, inclusion, and student success.

Throughout his campaign, Yellckin emphasized the importance of strengthening student resources, communication, and creating an environment where every student feels supported, heard, and empowered to succeed. We look forward to his leadership and to the perspective he will bring in representing the voices of NOCE students at the District, regional, and statewide levels.

We would also like to thank all students who participated in the election process and everyone who helped support and promote student civic engagement. Opportunities such as these are important in fostering leadership development and ensuring student voices remain at the center of our work.

As the next step in the process, Yellckin will be officially sworn into the Student Trustee position at the June 9, 2026, North Orange County Community College District Board of Trustees meeting.

NOCCCD Alert: Canvas is back online. Please access Canvas through our official login page at https://mg.nocccd.edu/ or noce.edu/mygateway. Do not enter your username or password on any Canvas page that does not redirect you through NOCCCD’s official MyGateway login page that requires multi-factor authentication.

Update 11:25 a.m., May 8, 2026:

We are aware that Canvas services are currently showing as available. At this time, our teams continue to work closely with system partners and cybersecurity officials to ensure that access can be restored safely and securely. Our current target is to bring Canvas back online by the end of the day today, Friday, May 8, 2026, provided there are no additional concerns identified. We are following guidance from the state chancellor’s office.

Importantly, at this time, we have no indication of any loss of data.

Once Canvas access is restored, users should log in through myGateway and utilize Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to help ensure safe and secure access to District systems.

As always, please remain vigilant with cybersecurity best practices:

• Do not click on links you are unfamiliar with.
• Be cautious when opening files or attachments you were not expecting.
• Report suspicious emails or activity through the appropriate campus channels.

We understand the disruption this situation has caused and appreciate your patience and flexibility as we proceed carefully and responsibly. We will continue to keep the campus community updated as additional information becomes available.We will send a communication once Canvas has been restored.

Update 3:34 p.m., May 7, 2026:

Canvas is currently inaccessible. DO NOT attempt to log into Canvas until further notice. If you navigated to the Canvas site and were met with an option to download a file, DO NOT download or open the file. We are actively monitoring updates and will send more information when it becomes available.

Original Post:

The Canvas learning management system is currently offline as of approximately 1:30 p.m. on May 7, 2026. We believe the outage is a result of Instructure, Canvas’ parent organization, taking the LMS down as the result of a continuing cyber incident. At this moment, NOCCCD systems are not experiencing a cyber incident.

We encourage everyone to stay alert online. Phishing and scams often spike after a data breach. The bad actor’s goal is usually to trick you into giving up passwords, clicking malicious links, or sending money. Here’s how to spot and avoid them:

Phishing & Scam Safety (Quick Guide)

• Don’t trust urgency
  Messages pushing “act now” or threatening consequences are often scams.
• Avoid clicking links
  Go directly to official websites instead of using email/text links. Check URLs for subtle misspellings.
• Verify the sender
  Look at the actual email address—not just the name. Be wary of non-official domains and misspelled company names.
• Never share sensitive info
  No legitimate source will ask for passwords, MFA codes, or full personal data via email/text.
• Be cautious of offers
  “Too good to be true” jobs, scholarships, or requests involving money (especially gift cards) are common scams.
• Don’t open unexpected attachments
  Don’t be so quick to open files like .zip, .exe, or unusual documents without verifying the authenticity of the trusted sender.
• Double-check requests
  Confirm through a trusted channel (official website, phone, or known contact).
• Use MFA
  Use multifactor authentication whenever possible.

This situation is evolving and we will share more information as we become aware. Updates may be shared via email, on myGateway, and/or on campus platforms such as the website, RAVE alert, and social media alerts.

The election to fill the new North Orange Continuing Education (NOCE) Student Trustee Seat is underway. The successful candidate will represent student interests and serve as the link between the North Orange County Community College District (NOCCCD) Board of Trustees and the NOCE student body.

Ballots open on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 8 a.m.
Ballots close on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 5 p.m.

NOCE will participate in spring emergency preparedness drills focusing on active shooter response 

Drills will be slightly different at each NOCE Center:

• NOCE/NOCCCD Anaheim Campus – will host drills on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at both 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
• NOCE Wilshire/Fullerton College – will host a morning drill on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 10 a.m.
• NOCE Cypress/Cypress College – will host a morning drill on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 10:15 a.m.

*Each drill should last about 10 minutes

The drills will prepare our campus communities for readiness and response to such an event. The drill will include emergency protocols, such as lockdown and shelter-in-place, watching a video, discussing with class or office colleagues, and testing emergency communications.  

Emergency Notifications at North Orange Continuing Education

Faculty, staff, and students will receive notifications from North Orange Continuing Education during emergencies and during emergency drills. The campus safety alert system uses the phone and e-mail addresses entered in Banner or MyGateway. Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to use MyGateway to update their personal information for emergency notifications. North Orange Continuing Education (NOCE) will host the Spring 2026 PowerUp and Career Fair Mega Event on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the NOCE Anaheim Campus in Rooms 105/107 and other locations on the first floor.

This free event, which also offers free parking, is open to both students and community members. It aims to connect people with employers, educational opportunities, and support services to help them get ready for work and improve their economic situation. The Office of Congressman Lou Correa will be there, too, helping to strengthen the links between NOCE, workforce partners, and community leaders.

Students attending the event can meet employers and community partners, explore career options, and learn about NOCE’s academic and career training programs. The fair will also have activities like an AI-assisted job search session, practice interviews, and professional headshot photography. These services are designed to help students improve their job skills, build confidence, and get ready for the workforce. The presence of the Office of Congressman Lou Correa will further connect students with community leaders and workforce partners.

To help students get the most out of the event, NOCE is offering career preparation workshops throughout February. These workshops provide practical advice and skill development so students can confidently meet with employers and handle professional situations. Together, the workshops and the PowerUp and Career Fair help students build the skills they need to succeed in their careers. This approach supports NOCE’s commitment to focusing on students, aligning with workforce needs, and helping students achieve long-term economic success by moving from learning skills to engaging in the professional world.
